Dr. Barbara Heald
Medical Director, DVMDr. Heald grew up in Vermont where she began caring for animals at a local veterinary hospital while still a teenager. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Vermont, and then went on to the University Of Tennessee College Of Veterinary Medicine where she received her formal veterinary training. After graduating from UT, Dr. Heald completed a small animal internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, where she met her future husband while caring for his police dog! She joined Dr. Tucker (also from Vermont) and the staff at VCA Daniel Webster Animal Hospital in 1989. Her love for being a part of this wonderful culture that promotes the health and well- being of pets AND their families have grown ever since. When not at work, Dr. Heald loves being at home with her family and pets, dogs Eli and Maggie and cats Mush and Kitten. She loves doing anything outdoors, especially walking, biking, running, hiking, gardening and, most recently, stand up paddle boarding, where staying upright on the water is both a thrill and a challenge! Her interests in veterinary medicine are many, but she especially enjoys working up medical cases and promoting good body condition and early dental care and intervention as ways to ensure good health and promote longevity.
